We look forward to welcoming City of Tempe Vice Mayor Doreen Garlid to NATIVE HEALTH as a guest storyteller during our Native American Heritage Month Celebrations. As a member of the Navajo Nation, she made history as the first Native American elected to the Tempe City Council in 2020 and now serves as Vice Mayor for the City of Tempe. Vice Mayor Garlid will be reading the children’s book, My Powerful Hair by Carole Lindstrom for the children and their families and share some of her experiences around “The Strength of our Hair”.

The event includes::

  • Blue Corn Cookies baked by Rochelle Garcia
  • Wild Tea
  • Learn how to braid take-home kit
  • Raffles for Indigenous Book Bundles
  • Blue Corn giveaway

Also joining us will be the Native American Liaison for the Tempe School District, to connect parents to support and resources available through the district’s Native American Program.

NATIVE HEALTH WIC, Health Start, Project LAUNCH and Wellness Warriors will be onsite to enroll eligible families into their programs as well and will lead some arts and crafts activities with the children and their families. Please save the date, of Wednesday, November 6, 3 p.m.-5 p.m. to attend this special event at NATIVE HEALTH Mesa.  We look forward to seeing you there! Please register to attend below:
